WHO WE ARE

The Ijaw Nations Development Group – INDG – otherwise known as Ijaw Peoples Assembly started as a virtual group; a body of Ijaw sons and daughters in Nigeria and in the diaspora. It is non political, non religious, non discriminating and non chauvinist in all ramifications rather bonded together by the common drive for Ijaw centrism. Membership is open to all Ijaws; Guided by a loose set of rules for individual self regulations, maturity, respect and truth.

It provides a framework within which members can express their opinions, ideas and thoughts in very civilised and simple decorous manner in freedom devoid of fear. The short term dream is to actualize ideas converged to very strong instrument for advocacy, policy change, rebirth and development of the Ijaw Nation.

 

 

OUR AIM

TO PROACTIVELY REFRAME PUBLIC DEBATE AND IMPACT AND INFLUENCE CURRENT AND EMERGING POLICIES IN WAYS THAT ADVANCE SOCIAL, POLITICAL, ECONOMIC AND EDUCATIONAL EQUITY THROUGH ADVOCACY, POSITION PAPERS, POLICY STATEMENTS, PRESS RELEASES AND OTHER STRATEGIES.

ENGAGING IN CRITICAL SOCIAL ANALYSIS THAT CHALLENGE THE STATUS QOU FOR A FOR VIABLE, CULTURALLY RESPONSIBLE, RESPONSIVE ÀND FASHONING A LONGTERM VISION FOR THE IJAW NATIONAL CONGRESS -INC-, THE IJAW YOUTH COUNCIL -IYC-, POLITICAL LEADERSHIP AND TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS FOR SELF PRESERVATION AND SELF GOVERNANCE NOTING THAT NIGERIA IS AKIN TO THE PLIGHT AND ASPIRATIONS OF THE IJAW NATION.

TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY TO SYNERGIZE, BUILD FRIENDSHIP, STRENTHEN ANCESTRIAL BONDS WITH OUR KINS AND KITS IN THE FRONTIER COMMUNITIES OF AROGBO, APOI AND OBOLO, IJAW ORGANISATION, AND OTHER ETHNIC NATIONALITIES FOR MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING AND COEXISTENCE FOR THE GOOD OF IJAW NATION.

 

 

OBJECTIVES.

  1. TO DEFINE MORE CLEARLY THE CULTURAL IDENTITY OF IJAW PEOPLE AND THEREBY BETTER ATTUNED TO THE NEEDS AND GIVE VOICE TO THE IJAW STRUGGLE AND ASPIRATIONS FOR CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC INTEGRATION AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND LIVING.
  2. PROVIDE A PLATFORM FOR LEARNING, KNOWLEDGE BUILDING AND NECESSARY FRAMEWORK TO DISCUSS THE IJAW QUESTION; A WATERSHED FOR DEVELOPING CONSENSUS IDEALOGY FOR MASS MOVEMENT AND COMMAND FOR THE REBIRTH OF IJAW CONSCIOUSNESS AND AWARENESS TO CHANGE OUR WORLD VIEW AND HOW WE ARE PERCEIVED.
  3. TO SUPPORT ALL IJAW ELECTED AND OR APPOINTED PUBLIC OFFICIALS IN ALL TIER OF GOVERNANCE, REVIEW POLICIES AND ADVOCATE FOR INTERVENTIONS FOR THE BALANCED SOCIO ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT INCLUDING ENVIRONMENT RIGHTS.
  4. TRANSLATE OUR RESPECT FOR TRADITION BY KEEPING WITH THE CULTURAL DIRECTIONS OF OUR TRADITIONAL LEADERS AS OVERSEERS OF OUR RICH HERITAGE.
  5. PROMOTE IJAW VISUAL ARTS, FOLKLORE, DANCE, FESTIVALS AND DRAMA AS A MECHANISM FOR BUILDING PEACE AND TO MODERATE THE INFLUENCE ANDMCLASH OF CIVILIZATION OR ACTS THAT WILL DEMONISE OUR CULTURE AND TRANDITIONS.
  6. TO SET UP LEGAL, INSTITUTIONAL AND POLITICAL MECHANISM TO PROMOTE UNITY OF IJAW NATION, COMBAT ALL FORMS OF DISCRIMINATIONS, EMPLOYMENT INIQUALITIES, DISADVANTAGE IN EDUCATION AND TO ENCOURAGE PARTICIPATION AND INCLUSIVITY,
